AZ-104: Pass!

Azure!

I’ve been quiet over the last month or so! Caught a bad flu and have been head-down, studying, and working on some projects at $DayJob.

I’ve also passed the AZ-104 earlier this month with a score of ~900. This was a somewhat tricky one. The exam goes in depth into any & all of the objectives. You will need to use the documentation (which, thank goodness, is available) for some questions. I didn’t find any of the questions unfair but I caught at least one error on the test.

I studied with Microsoft Learn and an Azure subscription (lots of labbing). If I had to estimate it I’d say I spent probably ~100 - 200 hours studying for this test. I was reasonably familiar with RBAC/Entra ID because I spend healthy amount of time in Microsoft 365, and I was already comfortable with PowerShell and virtualization/containerization.

I used the “TutorialsDojo” practice test(s) the weekend before my test (in an attempt to gauge readiness), but they had a lot of information that was either outdated or plain wrong, so I don’t think I got too much value from them.

All in all, pretty decent, not my favorite to study for (lots of attempted memorization…)

Onto the RHCSA now. I’ll need to do some labbing with Active Directory Certificate Services, Windows Server clustering, and Hyper-V at some point soon, but I think I can bang out the RHCSA (famous last words) and it’d be good to formalize my Linux experience and fill in some weak spots.

I’m thinking it would be neat to run through a couple more certs - do RHCSA -> RHCE -> CCNP Enterprise (ENCOR + ENARSI) -> AZ-305 over the next two years? Then I can stop the cert grind for a bit.

I’d go after the 305 now but I don’t think I’m in a position to call myself an Azure Solutions Architect Expert any time soon (most of the “solutions” I’ve been “architecting” are on-prem..)

Anyway! One down, many to go.
